✶Your note, and what happens to it✶

You wrote me something personal. Here is exactly what I do with it, in plain words. The short version: it comes to me, I read it, I answer it, and it goes nowhere else.

Who is asking

«TO CONFIRM: legal entity — e.g. Deborah Dedewo, trading as The House of Fabulous, or the registered company name and number» is the data controller. I am the person responsible for your information, and you can reach me about any of it at «TO CONFIRM: privacy contact email».

I do not publish the House’s address, and that is deliberate — it is revealed only once a private appointment is confirmed. You do not need it to exercise any of the rights below; the email above reaches me directly.

What I collect

Only what you type into the invitation form. That is:

• your name
• your email address
• how you heard a whisper of the House
• the few lines you write in your own words

There is nothing else. No cookies, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising tools, and no third-party scripts of any kind. I do not know who visits this site, how long you stayed, or where you came from. That is not an oversight — the site was built without any of it.

If you tell me something personal

Some Darlings write to me about their health, their body, a bereavement, their faith or a hard year. I never ask for any of that, and you should never feel you have to give it. If you do choose to, I treat it as what it is — something told in confidence. I use it only to reply to you thoughtfully, I do not record it anywhere separate, and I do not share it with anyone.

Why I hold it, and what allows me to

• To read your note and write back, and to decide whether to invite you. These are steps taken at your own request before we might enter into a membership, so my lawful basis is performance of a contract, and steps prior to one.
• To keep a record of enquiries I have answered, so I do not lose track of who has written or answer the same person twice. My lawful basis here is legitimate interests — running a small House properly and not being rude to the people who wrote to it.

Who else sees it

This website runs on one technical service, and your note passes through it on its way to my inbox. It does not use your note for anything of its own:

• Bluehost — hosts this website, sends your note to my inbox as an email, and keeps short-lived technical logs, which include visitors’ IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.

To stop automated floods of messages, the website also keeps a scrambled (hashed) form of the internet address a message came from. It is used only to count how many messages arrived from the same connection in the last hour, and nothing is linked to your name.

Nobody else. I do not sell your information, I do not share it, and I do not add you to a mailing list.

Where it goes

The House is in the United Kingdom, and so am I. That service is provided by a company based in the United States, so your note may be transferred outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by «TO CONFIRM: the safeguard actually in place with Bluehost (Newfold Digital) — its data processing agreement incorporating the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, or the EU Standard Contractual Clauses plus the UK Addendum. Get the DPA and current sub-processor list, confirm in writing which country this account’s server is in, and keep a copy».

How long I keep it

«TO CONFIRM with Deborah: proposed default — if you become a Darling, for as long as your membership lasts and «TO CONFIRM» years after it ends; if I do not invite you, or you hear nothing further, «TO CONFIRM» months from your note, and then I delete it». You can ask me to delete it sooner at any time, and I will.

Your rights

You can ask me at any time to:

• show you what I hold about you
• correct anything wrong
• delete it
• stop or limit what I am doing with it
• hand it to you, or to someone else, in a portable form
• object to my relying on legitimate interests

Write to me at «TO CONFIRM: privacy contact email» and I will answer within one month. There is no charge.

Nothing here is decided by a machine

Who is invited is decided by me, personally, reading every note myself. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling.

Do you have to give me any of this

No. Writing to me is entirely your choice. But I cannot consider inviting you without a name and a way to write back, so if you would rather not give those, I am afraid I cannot take it further.

Tell me first and I will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK’s data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or on 0303 123 1113.
